3 Notiz I. v. A. zur Autorschaft : Non Josephi Judaei celeberrimi viri hoc opus est, sed Josephi Gorionis, qui haec hebraico sermone scipsit, quem Scaliger egregium impostorem nominat.

Schmidt: Das ist NICHT der Gorionide.
Ähnlich Pius Kolb (csg 1401, S.208f.):

Horum Librorum author est quidem Josephus Ju-daeus, non tamen Flavius ille Josephus Matathiae filius, qui de Bello Judaico non V. tan-tum, sed VII. Libros scripsit, ut paulo ante diximus; sed Josephus Ben-Gorion, seu Filius Gorionis, hincque ab alijs Gorionides dictus. Hunc Hebraicè sua opera, illum Judeè scripsisse authores: et quamuis utraque im multis retro saeculis Latinitate donata fuerint, Josephi Gorionides tamen longè cultiori, ac ferè Rhetorico stilo translator esse clarè per-spicies, [S. 209] si ambos nostros antiquissimos Codices antè scrutatus fueris.

Schmidt: Das stimmt insofern nicht, als der hebräisch schreibende Gorionide nicht Vorlage für unseren lateinischen „Hegesippus“ gewesen oder gar mit diesem identisch ist. Den Gorioniden, auch unter dem Namen „Josippon“ bekannt, kenne ich recht genau, denn ich habe für meine Zwecke die Ausgabe von Breithaupt ins Deutsch übertragen. Eine der vielen Versionen dieses Buches ist unlängst auf Deutsch im Marix-Verlag erschienen. Sie ist um ca. ein Drittel kürzer als die Ausgabe von Breithaupt und enthält z. B. den Alexanderroman nicht.

Euw, Anton von: Die St. Galler Buchkunst vom 8. bis zum Ende des 11. Jahrhun-derts. (Monasterium Sancti Galli 3) St. Gallen 2008, S. 323-324, Nr. 31; sagt in seiner SEINER Inhaltsangabe:
Es handelt sich um die lateinische Übersetzung der Jüdischen Geschichte des Flavius Iosephus (37/38 - nach 100), deren Übersetzer wahrscheinlich der Kirchenvater Ambrosius von Mailand (um 339-397) ist.
